At first glance when you pass the construction site in Second Avenue, Blancheville, it would seem that no progress has been made on site, but down in the pit where the bridge washed away six years ago, you will find evidence of the work that has been done during the past few months.
WITBANK NEWS reported in June on how the first soil was overturned and construction had finally started on May 30 on the long awaited bridge in Second Avenue, Blancheville.
True to the timeline, a few months down the line, now in August the concrete base complete with steel reinforcement and shuttering has been fully completed.
“I am happy to report that the project is still on track with no issues and we are still on the guided timeline that was provided at the beginning of the project,” said Clr Scheepers, the Ward 20 Councilor.
Now that the concrete base of the wing walls has been completed, there will be a standard curing process of one month.
The middle section of the base was completed a month ago and curing and testing on this section has been completed.
The main contractor from Maburjan Trading Enterprise will start with the installation of the concrete culverts on this section.
At the first community meeting that was held concerning the bridge, it was stated that once the work commences, the project should take approximately seven months to be completed.
“The community needs this bridge, as it has affected the entire area since it collapsed six years ago. This is all part of making Ward 20 great again,” Scheepers concluded.
For more information regarding the project, residents can contact the Councillor of Ward 20, Maureen Scheepers directly on 082 565 6770.
